Slightly musty, lemon chiffon nose leads to a subdued agave flavor. The agave breaks out a little towards the end. Short finish. Aged in oak with some color added. Probably want to mix this. Tasted 5/2/2006.

Notes

Color: Honey-brown amber. Aroma: Butterscotch, vanilla and toasted coconut; peppery notes with cinnamon and candied fruit. Flavor: Exceptionally smooth, rounded, soft agave taste--first sweet, then dry, with a long complex finish.

From the manufacturer's website.

I used to think of 1800 as one of the better Tequilas back in my younger days. It is quite often the "best" Tequila in a lot of bars that don't stock anything better. I have since found there are many far better Tequilas than 1800. An undesirable quality of 1800 is that there is color added to it--probably molasses. That's not a good sign of quality.

You will almost always see the reposado version of this Tequila. In rare cases (though these cases are becoming less rare), you will see the anejo and blanco versions beside the reposado.

In a pinch (like when the bar has well, Cuervo, or 1800 and that's it), it will do for a good margarita, or maybe for a little sipping--if you're desperate.
