Tequila Anejo 100% Agave
Espolon Anejo Tequila
Review
95
Yellowish gold color. Intense aromas of tobacco, smoke, earth, honey, grilled pineapple, and vanilla. Smooth and silky at first, then opens into a medium body that coats the mouth. Nimble structure for an anejo. Waves of raisins, dried apples, and lemon peel balanced by a dose of acidity and warm heat. Then, an amazing wave of prickly cinnamon/mace spice and anise. It feels like you are sucking on a cinnamon stick and star anise. Long finish, perhaps 2 minutes or more. This is a hedonistic style with many layers meant to be sipped all by itself. Tasted 12/15/2007.
Notes
"This excellent Tequila has been aged twelve months in white-oak barrels, during which time the spirit acquires delicate hints of vanilla and butterscotch in addition to the other flavors of ripened agave and warm earth. Characterized by its deep, golden color." - From the manufacturer's website.
