Elijah Craig 12 Year Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Review
89
Orange/rust amber color. Vanilla, cream, raisin, and candied pecan aromas. Soft at first, then slowly builds with a tingling heat in the back palate. Bread pudding, yeast, raw pie dough, and toffee notes. The underlying heat and acidity eventually peak, but they are both still quite moderate. Medium long dry finish with oak notes. A stout bourbon that is not deeply complex but still pleasant with intriguing flavors. Tasted 10/13/2008.
Notes
In 1789, Rev. Elijah Craig became the Father of Bourbon by being the first to age his whiskey in a charred oak barrel. Today, his legacy lives on in this bottle, a "Small Batch" Bourbon before that term was even invented.
Perfection takes time. And, Elijah Craig has made it worth the wait. Twelve years in the making. Fresh limestone spring water. And, a special yeast recipe that's been a family secret for generations.
From the bottle.
