Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Scotch Whisky
Review

Amber in color. Dried fruit and sherry aromas, along with vanilla. Nutty sweetness at first, followed by some spice and a bit of smoke. Very restrained peat. Fine texture and balance between the sweetness and the oak. There is also a nice sherry layer in there. A warm medium to long finish. Very satisfying. Tasted 6/26/2006.
Notes
The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12 year old single malt Scotch whisky which gains its distinctive character from being matured in two woods. Over its period of maturation The Balvenie DoubleWood is transferred from a traditional American oak whisky cask to a Spanish oak cask which has previously held sherry. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt--the traditional casks, having previously held bourbon, soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour.
