Tio Pepe Fino Sherry
Review
87
Pale straw color. Concentrated aromas of hay, walnuts, and sage in the nose. Opens quickly with big pear flavors, changing to tart lemon. Converts into some alcohol warmth, then some dry nutty flavors followed by a nice 20 second finish. A fine, dry aperitif. Tasted chilled. Tasted 3/27/2007.
Notes
"Tío Pepe is now the best selling Fino sherry in the world. Made from the Palomino grape it is aged for 5 years under a covering of fresh, naturally-occurring yeast giving Tío Pepe its distinctive, bready, lightly nutty dry palate. Its outstanding quality won it Gold Medal Awards in the ‘International Wine Challenge’ in 1999 and 2001 – the first Fino ever to achieve gold status twice in the history of the Challenge." - From the manufacturer's website.
