Absinthe
Notes
Absinthe is a very strong (80 to 150 proof) anise flavored spirit that is usually pale green in color. The real thing is derived from herbs that include Artemisia absinthium, or wormwood. This kind of Absinthe is banned in the United States due to its alleged hallucinogenic properties. Instead, wormwood-free brands of Absinthe can be found in the U.S.
There is no sugar used in making absinthe, so techincally it is a liquor, not a liqueur. In order to conform to the category system, it is classified as a Liqueur here.
